8 March 1813 – North Spain



Following the loss of the battle of Palencia, 4th and 6th French corps are forced to retreat north off the map.

With the loss of two of his five corps, Marshal Soult orders a general retreat.

Wellington has clearly achieved both of his campaign objectives.
First to take and hold Valladolid
Second to defeat the French army

5th French attack 2nd Russian corps at Warburg
Fierce fighting in the town decides the outcome
The Russians lose 400 casualties, the French lose 1600 casualties
The French retreat leaving the Russians in control of the town.

8 March 1813 – Battle of Girhorn

No wargame was fought because the French were outnumbered two to one


0800 to 1200
1 Prussian corps is ordered to hold
2 and 4 Prussian corps halt and redeploy
3 Prussian corps march to the sound of the guns

1 and 3 French corps advance to attack
4 French corps ordered to support attack


1200 to 1600
1 and 3 French corps engage 1,2 and 3 Prussian corps
French lose 1600 infantry and 100 cavalry
Prussian lose 800 infantry


1600 to 2000
Napoleon orders 1 and 3 French corps to retreat to avoid further casualties
1st Prussian corps ordered to join main army south of Girhorn

Conclusion
The Prussians won the battle
But the French were not defeated

Outcome
The French will regroup overnight at Brunswick
The Prussians will regroup overnight at Girhorn
Both armies will be ready to resume the attack at daybreak if so ordered
