02 June 1813 – Battle of Erlangen – Right Wing

Oudinot has recovered from the earlier battles sooner than the Austrians
This is because he had to retreat and is nearer to his supply base
He has ordered an unexpected attack hoping to catch the enemy unprepared

Bavarians attack Erlangen
Austrian – 29200 infantry, 1900 cavalry, 60 guns
French – 26400 infantry, 1900 cavalry, 57 guns

This battle covers too large an area to wargame on one table
The two battles, named left and right wing, take part at the same time
But will be fought as two wargames.

HQ and 4th Austrian corps arrive start of move 1

0800-1200
11th Bavarian corps come under artillery fire as they deploy.
Grenadier brigade receive 10% casualties
Bavarian artillery reply, hit square supporting artillery.

4th Austrian corps deploy alongside 2nd Austrian corps
10th Bavarian complete deployment ready to attack in centre


1200-1600
11th Bavarian corps have the advantage.
Their cavalry have routed the 2nd Austrian cavalry brigade
Two Austrian infantry brigades have also been broken and routed

However 10th Bavarian corps are in serious trouble
Their cavalry have been routed by Austrian dragoons.
The infantry had to form square, and the gunners to seek protection in one square
Their leading infantry brigade have been routed by artillery fire

1600-2000
10th Bavarian corps press forward to attack Erlangen
4th Austrian dragoons rally and charge and rout the exposed Bavarian gunners
Two of the three nearby infantry brigades join the rout
The third brigade is shaken.

11th Bavarian corps are about to press home their attack when 10th corps rout
They immediately halt the attack, form square and retreat

Conclusion
The battle ends with the loss of 10th Bavarian corps
The Austrians have held Erlangen and therefore have won the battle

The Bavarians have lost 1400 casualties and four brigades in rout
The Austrians have lost 2500 casualties and three brigades in rout
